Unofficial StumbleUpon FAQ

Add a Clock to Your Profile

Can I have a clock on My Profile page?

Stumbleupon does not provide an official clock feature, but some stumblers have located and are using a clock that has proven to be capable of being inserted into the About Me section of the My Profile page.

It looks like this: clock example

To insert the clock:

Copy and paste the following HTML into your About Me:

<img src="http://escati.linkopp.net/cgi-bin/clock.cgi
?trgb=000000&srgb=00ff00&prgb=ff9933&pad=0&timezone=GMT+0100">

Warning!  It is recommended that you make sure the About Me entry field is empty when you add this code. It totals 116 characters. Once the clock is place OK, you can add other content to About Me if you wish, up to a total character limit of 255. If the code inserted into this field is in any way incomplete or incorrect it is *highly likely* to mess up your My Profile page.

Changing the clock settings (time and colour)

You can change the time to suit your local time, here:

<.......&timezone=GMT+0100">

Simply change this code to read the correct GMT +/- for your timezone, eg: Rio de Janeiro = GMT-0300,   Helsinki = GMT+0300

You can also change the colour of the clock, here: <.......&srgb=00ff00.....>

Simply change the HEX CODE until you find a colour compatible with your My Profile page theme.

My Profile page is broken

The About Me field is particularly sensitive. If incorrect or incomplete HTML code is inserted here it often results in your My Profile page appearing to be broken.  (This phenomenom is known as "Marzau'd My Profile" - named after the stumbler who first discovered it!)  Don't panic!

If you are using a Mozilla browser the Save Changes button is often inaccessible, so you cannot easily fix the problem with this browser. You *can* make the relevant changes by using Internet Explorer which is not so badly affected by the HTML code errors.

Using Internet Explorer: edit My Profile, and remove *all* of the clock code you entered into the About Me field. Save your changes and all should be well.

If you are on Mac, you will need to access your SU profile from a PC and Internet Explorer or you may care to try the alternate resolution method described in Advanced Users.

If you are stuck, consider asking a trusted stumbler to make the changes for you.

My profile page is broken - alternate resolution method:

This should work on any platform with any browser.

Advanced users

The original clock source is here: http://www.warpspeedhelp.com/clock.html

The clock itself is located here: http://www.escati.com/counter98/free_time_codes.htm

The clock is available in a variety of appearances. Experiences thus far suggest you would do well to avoid those which use Border or Reload parameters.

The following method has been kindly provided by Siman - it has not yet been tested on all platform/browser combinations. Feedback - particularly from Mac users - would be appreciated.

  1. Go to your edit page and save the source (File -> Save page as -> Web page HTML only)
  2. Open this saved file in a text editor
  3. Search for "<textarea onkeyup="checkMaxLength(this, 254)" cols=27 rows=3 name=description>" and remove all the text after it and before ";</textarea>"
  4. Search for "myinfo.php" and replace it with "http://www.stumbleupon.com/myinfo.php"
  5. Save this file and then open it in your web browser
  6. Click save changes - Magic

The clock is not displaying

The clock occasionally goes offline for maintenance - we have no control over this.

Check this website: http://www.warpspeedhelp.com/clock.html

If their clocks are down too, it is a problem with the clock server. If not, the error might well lie with your clock code.
